Discover the Wonders of Weather
Can’t get enough of the snow outside? Bring it inside! Channel 4 Meteorologist Dave Aguilera brings the weather to your library. At his Weather Wonders program, Dave will demonstrate how to make snow and a tornado, and he’ll share information about what makes Colorado weather unique.
Recommended for ages five and up.

If you’re thinking of owning your own business – but you don’t want high risks - franchising might be an option.
The Philip S. Miller Library (100 S. Wilcox St., Castle Rock) is hosting an education seminar on franchises Tuesday, December 16, at 6:30 p.m. Experts from FranNet Colorado will explain the pros and cons of franchising to help determine if it’s right for you.

Douglas County Libraries Assist Veterans with Benefits
In coordination with the American Association of Libraries (ALA), Douglas County Libraries is reaching out to local veterans and their families to help them understand new educational benefits available under the post-9/11 GI Bill which takes effect August 1, 2009.
The ALA in conjunction with the American Legion, the National Military Family Association, the American Council on Education and the National Association of Federally Impacted Schools, has created a Helpful Webpage to help Vets locate current information; the information located here by no means is the only applicable information available.
eMedia2Go offers Apple compatible MP3 format
Douglas County Libraries now offers the new Apple compatible MP3 format in its eMedia2Go.org collection.
Download audiobooks to your Ipod as well as hundreds of other compatible players. You'll find popular fiction and nonfiction authors for children, young adults and adults in a variety of popular genres. This new format offering is in its infancy and all audiobook publishers are not currently offering DRM-free (Digital Rights Management) downloadable audiobooks. Watch our collection grow. You can download audio and video at eMedia2Go.org. Please have your library card handy.
Donate Coats at Your Local Library
During the month of November, Douglas County Libraries is uniting with Coats for Colorado to gather gently used and new coats for those who need them this winter.
Last year, Douglas County Libraries collected more than 1,500 coats for individuals and families.

Douglas County Libraries Ranked 4th National Library Ratings
Douglas County Libraries is moving on up!
In 2008, Douglas County Libraries moved from 7th to 4th place nationwide among libraries serving populations of 100,000 to 250,000.
The ratings are based on statistics collected from nearly 9,000 public libraries measuring 15 factors. The focus is on circulation, staffing, materials, reference service, and funding levels.
Bookmobile Holds Pick-up
The Bookmobile is in for mechanical repairs. Bookmobile stops are cancelled Tuesday, December 9 & Wednesday December 10
Holds may be picked up at the Philip S. Miller Library in Castle Rock during normal Bookmobile hours from 3 - 8pm

Food for Fines
Food bank pantries around Douglas County are empty. In an effort to help restock the shelves, all Douglas County Libraries including the bookmobile will waive library fines in exchange for non-perishable food items from Monday, September 22 until Monday, October 20. This offer does not include charges related to lost or damaged items.
Food banks are especially in need of canned meats, pasta, rice, and boxed dinners. The libraries will collect the food and then deliver it to the food bank in their area. You may drop off the food at the Bookmobile or any of the following branches of Douglas County Libraries:
